Panagiotis (Takis) Alexopoulos was born in Amaliada, Ilia, in August 1963. He graduated from the 1st Public High School of Amaliada with honors in 1981. In 1985 he graduated from the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science of the National University of Kapodistrias with an Kapodistrian University. He followed postgraduate - doctoral studies specializing in football in England and Romania. In 1999 he was awarded a Doctorate.
He has authored 5 books on the science of football and has published over 20 scientific articles in scientific journals. He has 94 citations from international journals. He also worked as a professional football coach in all professional and amateur categories for 12 years.
He is the father of 2 children, Ioanna and Dimitris.
In October 2017, he was elected Vice President of the Department of Sports Organization and Management of the University of Peloponnese, while since September 2018 he has been the Dean of the School of Human Movement and Quality of Life.
